They were produced by two factories, BSA Shirley and the Royal Ordnance factory at Fazakerley. It is estimated that well over 1 million were produced during WWII with an estimated manufacturing cost of approximately $9.00 each. They are a simple blow-back SMG that can fired in both a semi-automatic and fully automatic mode. They were produced in several configurations with the MKII being the most widely used and remained well into service with the British, Canadian, Australian and Indian Armies well into the 1970s until replaced by the Sterling SMG. This is a solid representative example of an "inoperable" WWII British manufactured MKII STEN submachine gun. These SMGs were the workhorse of the British and Great Britain through out WWII.
